Seeking Treatments For Pelvic Health Conditions In London?

Pregnancy can bring about numerous changes in your body, with one of the most common issues being pelvic health conditions.

Issues in this area happen due to the increased pressure on the pelvic floor muscles and the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy.

Common problems in relation to this area include:

  • Pelvic organ prolapse. This occurs when the pelvic organs (such as the bladder, uterus or rectum) descend into or outside the vaginal canal due to weakened pelvic floor muscles. Pregnancy and childbirth can stretch and weaken the muscles, making it difficult for them to support the pelvic organs.
  • Urinary incontinence. If you experience incontinence during and after pregnancy, you’re not alone- it’s extremely common. It can range from occasional leakage when coughing or sneezing (known as stress incontinence) to a more urgent need to urinate that is difficult to control (urge incontinence). The growing uterus puts pressure on the bladder, and the pelvic floor muscles may be weakened during childbirth, contributing to this problem.
  • Diastasis Recti, which refers to the separation of the abdominal muscles along the midline. As the uterus expands, it can stretch the abdominal muscles, leading to a gap that can cause a bulge or pooch in the abdomen. This condition can also weaken the core and contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction.
  • Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP). Pregnancy can lead to pain in the pelvic joints due to the increased laxity in ligaments caused by hormonal changes. This condition can make it difficult to move and can cause pain in the lower back, hips and legs.
  • Fecal incontinence. Similar to urinary incontinence, this issue can occur due to the weakening of pelvic floor muscles during childbirth. This condition is characterised by the inability to control bowel movements.
